Barenaked Ladies plan headlining, festival and charity shows
Canadian pop act Barenaked Ladies will head out on a fall-winter tour of North America on Nov. 17. Tentatively, the band is planning on spending Dec. 2-21 performing in radio festivals, then headlining from Dec. 28-31, according to management.
The band's Nov. 30 performance at New York's Roseland Ballroom is part of the "Great Guinness Toast," one of a series of pay-per-view concerts that will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. (Barenaked Ladies' keyboardist Kevin Hearn was diagnosed with a form of leukemia in 1998. To treat the disease, he had a stem cell transplant in Toronto, which put him on the sidelines for about a year.)
Prior to their tour, Barenaked Ladies are scheduled to be a part of the Music Without Borders concert at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The Oct. 21 show--which also features performances by Alanis Morissette, the Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace and Bruce Cockburn--benefits the United Nations Donor Alert Appeal to provide aid to refugees in and around Afghanistan.
Reprise Records is scheduled to release the band's "Disc One: All Their Greatest Hits 1991-2001" on Nov. 13.
In other Barenaked Ladies news, author Paul Myers, brother of comedian Mike Myers, penned the "official biography" of the band, "Barenaked Ladies: Public Stunts, Private Stories." It is available through the Werkshop website.
The band's Hearn has scheduled dates with his band, Thin Buckle, which will be playing with Canadian mainstays the Rheostatics. The dates are in support of "H-Wing" (Nettwerk).
