Kenny Rogers announces Christmas tour

For the second straight year, Kenny Rogers [ tickets ] will star in a touring production of a Christmas-themed musical stage show. The Christmas production is slated to kick off on Nov. 27, and Rogers will perform a series of standard headlining shows prior to that date.

The holiday tour, "Christmas from the Heart Featuring the Toy Shoppe," will run through Dec. 22. It debuted in 1998 with a six-week, off-Broadway run at New York's Beacon Theater, and was revived as a touring show last year.

The show's setlist includes several holiday standards. Children join Rogers on the set for performances of "The Christmas Song," "Let It Snow" and "White Christmas." Midway through the show, the stage transforms into the Toy Shoppe, during which Rogers stars as Hank Longley, a toy shop owner who tells Christmas stories.

On Oct. 23, Dreamcatcher Records is set to release "... Live By Request," Rogers' 60th record and first live recording.

Last October, he released the album "There You Go Again," and in 1999, he put out "She Rides Wild Horses," which spawned his No. 1 hit with Alison Krauss, "Buy Me a Rose."

Earlier this year, Dreamcatcher re-released Rogers' classic album "The Gambler," the first CD of its Original Master Series. The enhanced CD features the original artwork, a digital card game, footage and photos from all five Gambler movies and a screensaver. Fourteen albums are scheduled for the series.
