Harry Connick Jr. assembles his Big Band for tour
Harry Connick Jr. has lined up a month-long tour with his Big Band, their first in more than a year.
The jaunt, which touches on the East Coast and Midwest, kicks off on Nov. 5 in Syracuse, N.Y., and wraps up on Dec. 2 in Cincinnati.
It's part of a busy fall for Connick. On Oct. 23, Columbia will release two Connick albums. The New Orleans-influenced "30" features guest appearances by Wynton Marsalis and the late gospel vocalist the Rev. James Moore, who died last year. "Songs I Heard" is a collection of movie tunes interpreted by Connick. The album includes songs from "The Wizard of Oz," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "The Sound of Music," "Mary Poppins" and others.
"Thou Shalt Not," Connick's first Broadway musical, will premiere on Oct.23. The pianist wrote, arranged and composed the music and lyrics for the musical based on Emile Zola's novel "Therese Raquin," a tale of adultery and murder in '40s New Orleans, according to a press release. Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman directed and choreographed the work. It will be
performed at New York's Plymouth Theatre through the beginning of January.
On top of that, Connick stars in a new film that film will hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles in November. "The Simian Line" (Gabriel Film Group)also stars Lynn Redgrave, Eric Stoltz, Tyne Daly and Cindy Crawford.
