James Taylor extends tour into late October
James Taylor 's lengthy tour in support of last year's "Greatest Hits Volume II" is winding down, but the singer-songwriter has extended the run. The road trip now features several new mid-October dates in the western U.S., and will wrap up in Hawaii at the end of the month.
Stops have been added in Bakersfield and Irvine, Calif., as well as in Las Vegas and Honolulu, according to tour organizers. Details appear in the itinerary below.
In addition to the handful of new headlining dates, Taylor's plans also include a Sept. 20 performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden, where he will take part in the Concert for New York, a benefit for those affected by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The event will feature performances from Paul McCartney, the Who, Bon Jovi, Melissa Etheridge, John Mellencamp, Macy Gray, the Goo Goo Dolls and others.
Taylor is also due to turn up on the Oct. 9 edition of NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," according to the popular James Taylor fan site James-Taylor.com.
"Greatest Hits Volume II," Taylor's most recent album, was released last November, and comprises 16 songs culled from his 20-plus-year history with Columbia Records, including "Handy Man," "Your Smiling Face," "Up on the Roof" and "Her Town Too." The singer's first greatest hits collection, which encapsulates works from his tenure with Warner Bros., remains his best-selling album to date, and has been certified diamond-plus for shipping 11 million copies since its release in 1976, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
As for new material, a previously unreleased track titled "Caroline I See You" is currently available for a limited time as a free download at Taylor's official website.
Taylor's tour continues on Wednesday night (10/3) in Phoenix. The veteran performer has been on the road since June 1
