Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie to close 2001 with Merry Mayhem

The grandfather of heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne , has announced plans for a Night of Merry Mayhem, a tour slated to kick off on Halloween.

The two-month tour, which wraps up on New Year's Eve in Phoenix, also includes performances by Ozzfest veterans Rob Zombie and Mudvayne . According to Rob Zombie's official website, a fourth band will be announced soon.

Osbourne is promoting his forthcoming album "Down to Earth" (Epic), due in stores on Oct. 16. The record, his first solo album in six years, was produced by Tim Palmer, and features guest appearances by ex-Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin, former Suicidal Tendencies bassist Robert Trujillo, and guitarist Zakk Wylde. Bordin, Trujillo and Wylde will back Osbourne on the tour as well.

According to his official website, Osbourne originally named the jaunt Black Christmas, but redubbed it a Night of Merry Mayhem "in light of recent tragedies."

On tour, Osbourne will donate proceeds from "Ozz Bless America" merchandise to the families of the firefighters and police officers who died during the terrorist attacks. He and Zombie will donate all proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales from the Meadowlands show on Dec. 23 to the families as well.

Rob Zombie will hit the road to support "The Sinister Urge" (Interscope), which is set for release on Nov. 13. Fans can download the album's first single, "Dead Girl Superstar," and a second track, "Feel So Numb," from his official website.

Mudvayne, winners of the inaugural MTV2 video music award in early September, is on the road promoting "L.D. 50" (Epic). It will join the Merry Mayhem tour on Nov. 1, after wrapping up its run with the Pledge of Allegiance tour on Oct. 31.
