Butthole Surfers turn 20, hit the road
SEPT. 28, 8:04 P.M. ET Seminal alt-rock band Butthole Surfers have mapped out their 20th anniversary tour, which doubles as a promotional effort for their latest album, "Weird Revolution."
Butthole Surfers' first tour in five years kicks off on Oct. 16 at Lupo's in Providence, R.I., and currently runs through Nov. 17; a spokeswoman at the band's label, Hollywood Records, confirmed that more dates will be added to the jaunt. Electronica artist Kid 606 will open.
Butthole Surfers' frontman Gibby Haynes, percussionist King Coffey and guitarist Paul Leary will be joined on tour by bassist Nathan Calhoun and guitarist-drummer Josh Klinghoffer.
"Weird Revolution" was produced by Surfers guitarist Paul Leary and Rob Cavallo (Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day). The first single, "The Shame of Life," was co-written by Haynes and Kid Rock.
Veterans of the Lollapalooza festival, Butthole Surfers previous album is 1996's "Electroniclarryland," which features the hit "Pepper."
