Lineup takes shape for Paul McCartney-led New York benefit

SEPT. 27, 9:00 A.M. ET update: Paul McCartney , the Who, Bon Jovi, James Taylor and John Mellencamp are among the artists scheduled to play at the Concert for New York, an event that will benefit victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The concert will take place on Oct. 20 at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Others on the bill include Macy Gray, Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Etheridge and India.Arie. Other artists will be announced in the coming days, according to a joint statement issued on Thursday (9/27) by VH1, Cablevision and Miramax Films.

Tickets go on sale on Oct. 7 at noon Eastern Time through Ticketmaster and Ticketmaster Online, according to organizers. (Ticketmaster is liveDaily's parent company.)

A four-hour telecast of the event will air live on VH1, and will be simulcast on radio stations across the country commercial-free, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Times.

All money raised from the concert will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund--which was established to benefit the Twin Towers Fund created by Mayor Rudolph Guiliani--as well as other charities directly benefiting people affected by the World Trade Center attacks. According to organizers, 100% of the money raised will go directly to aid victims and their families.

Previous reports from the British press incorrectly stated that the event would be dubbed Live Aid 2.

Others scheduled to participate in the event include Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, John Cusack and members of New York's professional sports teams.
