Tori Amos opens tour behind 'Strange Little Girls'
SEPT. 26, 8:41 P.M. ET
Tori Amos launches a tour in support of her new release, "Strange Little Girls," on Friday(9/28), and much to the delight of fans, it will feature the flame-haired chanteuse alone onstage on keyboards.
The 36-date tour marks Amos' first unaccompanied performances since 1994. According to Amos' official website, over half the dates are sold out. Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright will open the shows.
"Strange Little Girls" features 12 covers of songs written by men (click here to read a review). They are performed from the perspective of 13 female characters (one song features twins). Among the songs Amos covers are Eminem's "'97 Bonnie & Clyde," the Beatles' "Happiness Is a Warm Gun," the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays," and Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence."
Amos has been busy lately promoting "Strange Little Girls." She performed stirring renditions of Tom Waits' "Time" (which appears on the record) on the Sept. 18 broadcast of "The Late Show with David Letterman" and on the Sept. 19 broadcast of "Live with Regis and Kelly." A crush of fans turned out to greet her during a Sept. 19 appearance at the Union Square Virgin Megastore in New York City.
