Celine Dion and Peter Gabriel will be among the performers at a Friday (9/28) concert to benefit the American Red Cross, according to Canadian wire reports. Quebec artists Bruno Pelletier, Les Respectables, Offenbach, Luck Merville and Pierre Flynn reportedly are also scheduled to appear. The show will be telecast live on Canada's TQS network from Montreal's Molson Centre.
Interscope Records plans to release an album featuring music from Friday night's "America: A Tribute to Heroes" telethon within "a matter of weeks," according to the New York Daily News. "All artists have waived royalty fees and the record companies will absorb the manufacturing and distribution expenses so that all proceeds go to the September 11th Telethon Fund," Mitchell Fink reported in his column.
The video to Michael Jackson 's new single "You Rock My World" debuted on MTV's "Total Request Live on Wednesday (9/26). The full clip clocks in at nearly 14 minutes, but a five-minute version will go into MTV's rotation, according to MTV.com.
Zomba Recording Corp. has acquired the label Mojo Records, Variety.com reported. Mojo artists include Goldfinger and Cherry Poppin' Daddies.
Though not considered a major label like Sony or BMG, with a distribution deal with Jive (Backstreet Boys, 'NSync, Britney Spears), Zomba is the "world's largest independent music firm," according to Billboard.
Shane MacGowan will reunite with his old band the Pogues for five U.K. dates in December, NME.com reported. The shows will be in Manchester (12/16), Glasgow, (12/17) Birmingham (12/18) Dublin (12/20) and London (12/21, 22)
XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. launched its satellite radio service in Dallas and San Diego on Tuesday (9/25). The subscription service, which requires a special receiver, offers more than 100 channels of music and other programming. The launch was delayed two weeks due to the attacks of Sept. 11.
A best-of set from Barenaked Ladies titled "Disc One: All Their Greatest Hits/1991-2001" will hit stores on Nov. 13, according to Reprise Records. On Nov. 30, the band will perform live on a pay-per-view concert to raise funds for the Leukemia Society.
The Cure's forthcoming "Greatest Hits," due on Nov. 13, will feature two new songs. The band has also recorded new, acoustic versions of all 18 songs that appear on the album, which will be sold as a limited edition, 2-CD set, according to Elektra.
