Cold walks off Weezer tour, readies for headlining run
Cold , which unexpectedly abandoned its opening slot on the Weezer tour last week, will return to the road next month for an extensive fall and winter tour of U.S. clubs and theaters. Dope has been tagged to open on most of the upcoming dates.
Prior to kicking off its own headlining jaunt, Cold will open a Sept. 30 gig for 3 Doors Down in Utica, N.Y., according to Cold’s official website.
The group’s headlining run then begins on Oct. 2, and the extensive itinerary currently stretches into early December. Dope is slated to open from the kick-off through Nov. 24, according to the group’s publicist.
Earlier this month, metal act Cold set out on tour with alt-rock group Weezer. Cold was scheduled to occupy the opening slot on that outing until this Saturday (9/28), but abruptly left the tour following an abbreviated opening set at Weezer’s Sept. 21 engagement in Chicago.
According to a message posted on Weezer’s official website, Cold frontman Scooter Ward was reportedly getting heckled by Weezer fans on a nightly basis, and subsequently walked off stage mid-set on Sept. 21 after he was heckled by members of the Chicago audience. He then announced backstage that the group was quitting the tour.
Cold is touring in support of last year’s “13 Ways to Bleed Onstage” (Flip/Interscope), the follow-up to its 1998, self-titled debut. The new album features the group’s latest single, “End of the World.”
Dope is set to release a sophomore effort titled “Life” (Flip/Epic) on Oct. 30. The album’s first single, “Now or Never,” is scheduled to hit radio stations on Tuesday (9/25), according to a press release. “Life” is the follow-up to 1999’s “Felons and Revolutionaries.”
