The Breeders plan quick tour, early 2002 album release

The Breeders , who played a series of "secret" shows in recent months as they worked on a new album, have lined up a West Coast club tour. The band's first album since 1993's "Last Splash" (4AD) is expected to hit stores in early 2002.

The only members of the Breeders to carry over from "Last Splash" to the as-yet-untitled, new album are sisters Kim and Kelley Deal. New members include bassist Mondo Lopez and guitarist Richard Presley of punk band Fear and drummer Jose Medeles of 22 Jacks.

Steve Albini (Nirvana, the Pixies) produced the new album.

The only song released under the Breeders name since "Last Splash" was a cover the James Gang's "Collage," which was on the 1999 soundtrack to "The Mod Squad."
