North American tour dates emerge for Elton John
update: Elton John continues to add dates to the North American tour in support of his new album, "Songs from the West Coast" (Rocket/Mercury), which hit stores in October.
"I Want Love," the new album's first single, currently sits at No. 21 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. A video for the song--which John wrote with longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin--features actor Robert Downey Jr.
On Sept. 9, John performed for a crowd of about 300 at the BBC Radio Theatre in London, according to the artist's official website. The gig was recorded for BBC Radio 2, which broadcast the show as a 90-minute special. John previewed six songs from "Songs from the West Coast" during the show and also played several of his well-known hits.
Earlier this year, John teamed with fellow piano-playing singer Billy Joel for a co-headlining tour. According to Pollstar, the outing was the No. 2 grossing tour of the first half of 2001, pulling in more than $57 million over 31 shows.
