Tool firms up more dates as tour hits the road
update: Tool , which has been on break since wrapping up a brief round of theater dates in mid-August, launches a full-scale arena tour on Thursday (9/6) in Minnesota to back its latest album, “Lateralus.” The group recently added a number of stops to the outing, and has also confirmed the support acts that will appear on the bill.
Tool’s itinerary runs into early November, and contains a two-night stand at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Tickets to most of the group’s stops are already on sale, though several of the newly added shows are scheduled to hit the box office on Thursday (9/6) or Saturday (9/8). Details appear in the itinerary below.
Swedish metal act Meshuggah has been tagged to serve as the show opener from the kick-off through the Sept. 19 stop in Montreal. The opening slot will then go to Fantômas--fronted by former Faith No More singer Mike Patton--who will join the tour on Sept. 20 and open for the remainder of the outing, according to Tool’s official website.
In addition to its own headlining arena dates, Tool's tour plans also include a late October performance at the Voodoo Music Experience festival in New Orleans, which the group will co-headline with the Black Crowes. Other acts scheduled to appear at the event include Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, Better Than Ezra, G. Love & Special Sauce, Gov't Mule.
Released in May, Tool’s "Lateralus" (Volcano) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and has sold about 1.4 million copies to date. "Schism," the album's first single, is the No. 1 track on trade publication Radio & Records' latest Rock chart, which measures national radio airplay.
Tool has already toured Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan behind "Lateralus," and last month completed a brief tour of the western U.S. with King Crimson.
