Maxwell adds more dates to outing with Alicia Keys

Maxwell , who kicked off a tour in support of his recently released album “Now” (Columbia) earlier this month, has extended the run into late October. Chart-topping singer Alicia Keys will continue to serve as the show-opener at the majority of the upcoming dates.

Maxwell and Keys are in the midst of a series of seven New York City performances that began on Aug. 13, each of which takes place at a different venue. The pair will end that run with a Saturday night (8/25) performance at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Keys will then open for Maxwell through an Oct. 9 engagement at Detroit’s Fox Theatre, according to her record label. A second, Oct. 10 performance at the Fox Theater is listed on Keys’ official website, but had not yet been confirmed, according to a venue spokesperson.

A replacement for Keys in the tour's opening slot has not been determined, a spokesperson for Maxwell said.

In addition to her opening dates with Maxwell, Keys is also scheduled to perform at “Showtime at the Apollo” in Harlem on Thursday night (8/23), and will be the featured musical guest on both “Saturday Night Live” on Oct. 13 and “Late Night with David Letterman” on Oct. 15, according to her website.

Released on Tuesday (8/21), Maxwell’s “Now” features the singer’s current hit “Lifetime,” which has risen to No. 9 on trade publication Radio & Records’ latest Urban AC national-airplay chart.

Topping that same chart, meanwhile--and also sitting atop Billboard’s latest Hot 100 Airplay, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks, and the Billboard Hot 100 charts--is Alicia Keys’ breakthrough hit, “Fallin’.” The song is featured on Keys’ June 26 debut album, “Songs in A Minor” (J Records), which entered the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1.
