Matchbox twenty and Train launch summer trek
Matchbox twenty and Train kicked off their U.S. summer tour in North Dakota on Tuesday night (7/31). The outing, which is scheduled to run through the end of September, also features a rotating roster of support acts that comprises Old 97’s, 7 Mary 3, Davíd Garza, Pete Yorn and Peter Stuart.
Headlining act matchbox twenty is touring behind its May 2000 sophomore release, “Mad Season” (Lava/Atlantic), which was certified triple-platinum earlier this year. The album’s title-track is at No. 9 on Billboard’s latest Adult Top 40 singles chart, and is followed by album cut “Hanging On” at No. 11.
At No. 1 on that same singles chart, meanwhile, is the title-track from Train’s sophomore effort, “Drops of Jupiter” (Columbia), which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 album chart in March. The album will clock in at No. 18 on next week’s edition of that chart, according to industry sources.
On Thursday morning (8/2), fans can catch a performance from Train on NBC’s “Today Show,” according to the band’s official website.
Old 97’s are opening for matchbox twenty and Train though Aug. 12, Seven Mary Three is scheduled to open from Aug. 14 through Sept. 2, Garza takes over from Sept. 4 through Sept 14, and Yorn is featured from Sept. 15 through Sept. 28, though he will not appear on Sept. 24, according to matchbox twenty’s official website. Stuart is listed by the site as scheduled to appear on “select dates,” though no dates were specified.
