Belle & Sebastian plan West Coast tour

Elusive Scottish eight-piece Belle & Sebastian will tour the West Coast during a short U.S. stint that kicks off on Sept. 6 at Los Angeles' Wiltern Theatre. The tour will also visit San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland, Ore., with a sixth stop also expected.

The band's latest release is the three-song EP "Jonathan David." A second single will be released this fall through Matador Records, as will the soundtrack to maverick director Todd Solondz's ("Happiness," "Welcome to the Dollhouse") forthcoming film, "Storytelling." Belle & Sebastian scored the second half of the film, while former Shudder to Think guitarist Nathan Larson scored the first.

Belle & Sebastian rarely subjects itself to promotional duties. The band is rarely interviewed, has only played a handful of U.S. shows since forming in 1995, and didn't tour at all in conjunction with its last full-length, "Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant," which was released in June 2000.
