Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Destiny’s Child, others up for Lady of Soul Awards
With three nominations apiece, Jill Scott , Sunshine Anderson and 3LW are the leading contenders for this year’s Lady of Soul Awards, which honor female recording artists. Alicia Keys , India.Arie, Changing Faces, Destiny's Child , Dream and Sunday each scored two nominations for the seventh annual edition of the Soul Train event.
In addition to the regular award categories, the Lena Horne Award for Outstanding Career Achievement will be presented to veteran performer Patti LaBelle , and the Aretha Franklin Award for Performer of the Year will be presented to newcomer Jill Scott, according to organizers.
The awards ceremony will be hosted by singer Luther Vandross, television personality Leeza Gibbons, rapper Eve and current Soul Train host Shemar Moore, and is set to take place on Aug. 28 at the Santa Monica Civic Center. The event will be taped for a syndicated, two-hour broadcast that is scheduled to air on Sept. 1.
Nominations were determined by a voting body comprising "radio programmers, active recording artists and key retail personnel," according to an event press release.
