Briefly: Juvenile silenced for swearing, new Britney album and tour
Rapper Juvenile ’s Wednesday night (7/18) show at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson, Tenn., ended abruptly when the venue’s director pulled the plug during the first song, reportedly because he objected to Juvenile’s use of profanity.
“If you've got a mixed-age group and kids 10 and 11 years old in there, it's not going to happen in the civic center," civic center Director Mose Burton told the Jackson Sun. "It was basically a judgment call on my part, and I stand by my decision."
Local promoter Tisha Ruffin--whose only previous promotions involved local acts and car shows, according to the paper--claimed that Juvenile had verbally agreed to not use profanity during the all-ages event.
"I was real excited about bringing him down here,” Ruffin told the paper, “but I didn't like him from the door. He had a really snobby attitude, and his crew was acting like we were just this small town and they were better than everybody. He already had his money. I think he sabotaged it on purpose."
About 500 people attended the event, for which tickets cost $25. Refunds were not given, according to the report.
Britney Spears will kick off a tour in October, MTV.com reported. The singer’s third album is due out on Nov. 6, according to the report.
Popular ‘60s-era singer and social activist Mimi Farina died of cancer on Wednesday at age 56, according to a Reuters report. The sister of folk legend Joan Baez, Farina left her career in music and founded Bread & Roses, a nonprofit organization launched in 1974 that brought live music and top performers to people in jails, psychiatric wards and drug rehabilitation centers.
A public ceremony honoring Farina at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco is scheduled for Aug. 7
Eddie Van Halen said on Tuesday (7/17) that he and his bandmates--drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Michael Anthony--have recorded two or three albums-worth of new material, according to MTV.com. When asked about the status of a potential reunion with original singer David Lee Roth, Van Halen reportedly said that he has “no idea--I swear I really don't know. I don't know what goes on in other people's realities, and I don't try to figure it out. [Roth] knows where I live. ... It's outta my hands."
