Sigur Ros sets inaugural North American tour

The Icelandic ambient rock group Sigur Ros will kick off a 12-date tour on Sept. 18 in Detroit. The tour marks the groups first major North American jaunt.

Sigur Ros, which means "Victory Rose" in English, will hit a dozen major North American markets before heading to Japan and Brazil.

The group has played a handful of North American dates in the past, including last April's Coachella festival in Indio, Calif.

Sigur Ros' latest album, "Agaetis Byrjun," hit No. 1 in its native country. The band was cited by Radiohead's Thom Yorke as an influence for Radiohead's critically acclaimed 2000 album, "Kid A," which has raised Sigur Ros' profile in the U.S.
