Aaliyah
“Aaliyah” (Virgin)

R&B singer Aaliyah’s new self-titled effort is her first album in almost five years, and features the hit “We Need a Resolution,” which is currently the No. 8 track at urban radio stations, according to trade publication Radio & Records. The song features rapper Timbaland, who also produced the track, and with whom Aaliyah worked on her previous album, 1996’s “One in a Million.”

On Tuesday (7/17), Aaliyah is scheduled to launch her new release with an appearance on the BET network's “106 & Park.” The network has also launched a special Aaliyah page on its official website, where users can access streaming-audio versions of all of the tracks from the album and a streaming version of the “We Need a Resolution” music video.

MTV has launched its own Aaliyah artist website as well.

Foxy Brown
“Broken Silence” (Def Jam)

The latest from Foxy Brown features her current hit “Oh Yeah,” which is at No. 33 on Billboard’s latest Hot Rap Singles chart. The hardcore rapper’s new album is the follow-up to 1999’s “Chyna Doll,” and her 1996 debut, “Ill Na Na.” Seven of the tracks from “Broken Silence” can be found at Def Jam’s official Foxy Brown website

Perry Farrell
“Song Yet to Be Sung” (Virgin)

After making a name for himself at the helm of Jane’s Addiction, and after subsequent success with his side project Porno for Pyros, singer Perry Farrell goes truly solo this week with an album featuring his vocals backed primarily by electronic jams. The singer’s first solo effort features guest appearances by Jane’s Addiction mates Dave Navarro (guitar) and Stephen Perkins (drums), as well as Porno for Pyros bassist Martyn LeNoble. Farrell and the trio are set to launch a Jane’s Addiction reunion tour in August.

Kurupt
"Space Boogie: Smoke Oddessey" (Antra/Artemis)

For his third full-length album, rapper Kurupt hosts, among others, two Doggs (Snoop and Nate), one former N.W.A. associate (MC Ren), Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst and DJ Lethal, plus Lethal's former House of Pain mate, Everlast.

"It's Over," the album's first single, has a video currently in rotation on MTV, MuchMusic and BET; the song features vocalist Natina Reed of the group Blaque, who is also Kurupt's fiancee. Kurupt's official website features streaming audio and video of "It's Over," as well as streaming audio of the album’s title cut (with Nate Dogg), "Kuruption" (with Everlast) and "The Hardest Muthas" (with Xzibit, Nate Dogg and MC Ren).

Willa Ford
“Willa Was Here” (Lava/Atlantic)

Willa Ford has hit pre-release gold with the track “I Wanna Be Bad,” from her debut album, “Willa Was Here.” The song is currently at No. 7 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Sales chart, and the companion music video has been a regular on MTV’s “Total Request Live” Top 10 countdown for several weeks. Streaming versions of both the audio and video versions of the song can be found at Ford’s official website, as can audio for the tracks “Ooh Ooh” and “Joke’s on You.”

Craig David
“Born to Do It” (Wildstar/Atlantic)

After selling 4 million copies worldwide, 20-year-old two-step superstar Craig David finally releases his debut album in the U.S. David, who earlier this year received England’s prestigious Ivor Novello award for Best Contemporary Song, is at the fore of Britain’s two-step movement, which combines American-style R&B with drum ‘n’ bass beats.

The video for “Fill Me In,” the album’s first single, is generating buzz on MTV. Streaming audio and video of "Fill Me In"--as well as audio for the tracks “Rendezvous,” “Walking Away” and “7 Days”--can be found at David's official website.

Beta Band
"Hot Shots II" (Astralwerks)

Scotland's Beta Band releases its second full-length album to coincide with its run as opener for Radiohead's upcoming summer tour.

The first single, "Squares," features a sample of the '60s-era Gunter Kallman Choir song "Daydream," and the album boasts a hip-hop remake (with rapper MC Exodus 77) of Harry Nilsson's "One" entitled "Won." Two cuts, "Al Sharp" and "Broke," are available in streaming audio at the band's official website.

The Beta Band got a nod in the 2000 John Cusack flick "High Fidelity" when Cusack's record store proprietor character plays "Dry the Rain," from 1999's "The Three EPs," over his store's P.A.

Iggy Pop
“Beat 'Em Up” (Virgin)

Well into the third decade of his storied musical career, punk-rock icon Iggy Pop is staying in the game with his first collection of new-millennium material. Fans can sample the “Beat ‘Em Up” track “Mask” at Pop’s official website … a particularly creative Internet stop likely to amuse some and offend others.
