Maxwell, Alicia Keys to open tour with seven New York shows

R&B artist Maxwell will team with newcomer Alicia Keys--whose debut album entered the charts at No. 1 earlier this month--for a tour that includes seven shows in seven different New York City venues.

Brooklyn-born Maxwell's third full-length album, "Now" (Columbia), is scheduled for release on Aug. 21. A week before it hits stores, the outing opens with the run through New York venues. Maxwell will be backed by his 10-piece band.

Several of the cuts on "Now" feature the guitar work of Wah Wah Watson, who has collaborated with Maxwell in the past, according to Columbia Records. Watson has worked with Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock and Barry White, among others.

Following the New York dates, which will conclude on Aug. 25, Maxwell and Keys will open a tour of major U.S. markets that will run through October. The tour's initial dates can be found in the itinerary below.

Keys' debut album, "Songs in A Minor" (J Records)--which hit No. 1 in its debut week--spawned her hit single "Fallin', which has received heavy airplay as a "Buzzworthy" clip on MTV.
