Charts: D12 takes back No. 1, Lil' Romeo scores Top 10 debut
After being knocked from the top spot last week by Alicia Keys’ “Songs in A Minor,” D12 sold just barely enough copies of its “Devil’s Night” to reclaim its No. 1 position this time around. The debut from Lil’ Romeo, meanwhile, will spend its first week out in the Top 10, making it the only newcomer to the group.
“Devil’s Night” (Shady/Interscope) and “Songs in A Minor” (J Records) sold slightly more than 173,000 copies apiece last week, with D12 outselling Keys by a scant 300 copies to regain the No. 1 spot on the forthcoming Billboard 200 album chart, according to industry sources. The Eminem-led D12’s “Devils Night” features the single “Purple Hills”--a radio-edit of album track “Purple Pills”--while Keys’ “Songs in A Minor” features her radio hit “Fallin’.”
The No. 3 entry on the chart, up one spot from last week, is Staind's “Break the Cycle” (Flip). The album’s single “It’s Been a While” continues to dominate Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.
After debuting at No. 3 last week, Jagged Edge’s “Jagged Little Thrill” (Columbia) slips to No. 4, and is followed at No. 5 by Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” (Columbia), which is up a notch from last week.
At No. 6, making its first appearance on the chart, is the self-titled debut from Lil’ Romeo; the pre-teen rapper's father, Master P, released the album on his No Limit label. The album features the hit single “My Baby,” which currently holds a spot on eight different Billboard singles charts.
Up three spots from No. 10 is the soundtrack for the box-office smash “The Fast and the Furious” (Def Jam), which features tracks from R. Kelly, Ja Rule, Limp Bizkit and others.
Blink-182’s “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” (MCA) stays put at No. 8 this week, and is trailed by the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack (Interscope), which is down two spots to No. 9.
Closing out the Top 10 is “Free City” (Universal), the debut from the Nelly-led St. Lunatics. The album debuted in the No. 8 spot two weeks back, dropped to No. 11 last week, and climbs back to No. 10 this week.
