Charts: Alicia Keys' debut album scores No. 1 spot
"Songs in A Minor," the debut album from R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Keys, will lay claim to the No. 1 spot on next week's Billboard 200 album chart after selling over 235,000 copies during its first week in stores, according to industry sources. The album leads a charge of four Top 10 debuts that also includes the latest from Jagged Edge, Beanie Sigel and Lonestar.
Keys' debut features her hit single "Fallin'," which jumped six spots to No. 10 on Billboard's latest Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks chart. The song's companion music video, meanwhile, is currently in rotation as a "Buzzworthy" clip on MTV.
The No. 1 debut by "Songs in A Minor" pushes "Devil's Night" (Interscope/Shady)--the debut from Eminem's side project, D12--down to No. 2, following its No. 1 debut last week.
Debuting at No. 3 this week is "Jagged Little Thrill" (Columbia), the third album from urban quartet Jagged Edge. The album's strong first week performance comes courtesy of its first single, "Where the Party At," which features a guest appearance by Nelly. The song is currently at No. 6 on trade publication Radio & Records' urban airplay chart, up six spots from No. 12 last week.
Staind's "Break the Cycle" (Flip) continues its slow descent this week, landing at No. 4. The album spent the last two weeks at No. 2, and the previous three weeks at No. 1.
The third Top 10 debut of the week is rapper Beanie Sigel's "Reason" (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam) at No. 5, featuring the hit single "Beanie (Mack B****)." The song is currently the No. 18 track on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart.
Both down two spots this week is Destiny's Child's "Survivor" (Columbia) and the "Moulin Rouge" soundtrack (Interscope), which punch in at Nos. 6 and 7, respectively.
Blink-182's "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" (MCA), meanwhile--which debuted at No. 1 two weeks back--slips from No. 3 last week to No. 8 this week.
Rounding out the barrage of Top 10 debuts this week is the No. 9 entry from Lonestar, "I'm Already There" (BNA). The album's title track continues to dominate the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart for the fourth consecutive week.
Climbing its way into the Top 10 this week is Def Jam's soundtrack for the film "The Fast and the Furious," which debuted at No. 13 late last month and dipped as low as No. 18. The album is a compilation featuring tracks from R. Kelly, Ja Rule, Limp Bizkit and others. The film is currently No. 2 at the box office.
Just outside the Top 10, Lil' Mo's "Based on a True Story" (Elektra) enters the chart at No. 14, while further down the roster, dance-music compilation album "Totally Dance" logs on at No. 53, and LFO's "Life Is Good" (J) chimes in at No. 87.
