Singer-songwriter Warren Zevon [ tickets ], who is currently recording a new album, has assembled a three-week summer run of tour dates in the western U.S. and Canada.

According to Zevon's official website, the new album is titled "Lifted Up in Pieces," and is being recorded in Los Angeles. No release date has been announced.

In March, Artemis Records released the Zevon novelty single "Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)," which features the "Late Show with David Letterman" band (including a backing vocal credit for Letterman himself). The lyrics to the song were written by Mitch Albom--author of "Tuesdays with Morrie"--and Zevon wrote the music.

The first new Zevon studio album in five years, "Life'll Kill Ya" (Artemis), was released in January 2000.

Zevon plays a part in "South of Heaven, West of Hell," Dwight Yoakam's directorial motion picture debut. The film, which Yoakam co-wrote and in which he stars, was released in New York and Los Angeles in mid-June.
