Sammy Hagar plugs in for short summer outing
update: Rocker Sammy Hagar has lined up a handful of late-summer concert dates in the West and Midwest to back the release of his forthcoming concert DVD. The outing will include a stop at the Sunset Station in Las Vegas, which is the future site of Hagar's first U.S.-based Cabo Wabo night club.
Hagar's brief summer run kicks off in Kelseyville, Calif., at the same venue where, in late January, he wrapped up his 2000-2001 winter tour. The upcoming jaunt consists of only six dates, and is not expected to turn into a full-blown tour, according to Hagar's manager.
Tickets for both the California and Las Vegas stops are on sale now, while tickets to his Detroit stop hit the box office on Saturday (6/30). Additional on-sales are set for July. Details appear in the itinerary below.
On August 7, Hagar plans to release a DVD of his November 2000 performance at the Chicago Theatre.
Earlier this year, Hagar announced that he had partnered with Station Casinos of Las Vegas to build a $40 million Cabo Wabo night club and bowling center at Las Vegas' Sunset Station Hotel and Casino, according to his official website. No specific timeline for the project has been announced.
Hagar's original--and currently sole--Cabo Wabo night club is located at the tip of Mexico's Baja peninsula in the town of Cabo San Lucas, where he performs several times per year. The establishment is named after the Hagar-era Van Halen track "Cabo Wabo," which is featured on the group's 1988 album "OU812" (Warner Bros.).
Hagar has built somewhat of a cottage industry under the Cabo Wabo moniker. In addition to his night club, he also distributes an award-winning tequila that bears the Cabo Wabo name, and his most recent album, last fall's "Ten 13," was released on his new Cabo Wabo label, a boutique imprint of Beyond Records.
