New Releases, June 19: Stone Temple Pilots, D12, Sisqo
plus: Mandy Moore, 311, Dave Navarro, Warped Tour 2001, Brian Wilson, more.
Stone Temple Pilots ’ highly anticipated follow-up to 1999’s “No. 4” is this week’s “Shangri-La Dee Da,” which features the new single “Days of the Week.” The band has lined up a blitzkrieg of promotional activity to mark the release of the new album.
STP’s newly re-launched website is currently offering a streaming-audio version of “Shangri-La Dee Da” (Atlantic) in its entirety. That stream went online last Friday (6/15), and will be available through Monday (6/18), according to Atlantic Records.
The website also features video excerpts from a forthcoming documentary on the group. The excerpts capture the band performing several songs from its new album.
On Monday (6/18) at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, STP is scheduled to participate in an hour-long online video-chat at GetMusic.com. An in-store appearance is then set for Tuesday (6/19) at 5 p.m. Eastern Time at the Tower Records at 692 Broadway in New York City, where the band will spend two hours signing autographs.
That event will be followed on Wednesday morning (6/20) by the group’s appearance on “The Howard Stern Show,” and later that afternoon by an appearance on MTV’s “Total Request Live,” during which the group will premiere the video companion for its current hit, “Days of the Week.”
An additional in-store autograph session is scheduled for Thursday (6/21) from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. at the MTV Store in New York City’s Times Square.
“Devil’s Night,” the debut from Eminem’s side project D12, lands in stores this week. The album--which is being released on Eminem’s new Shady label, an Interscope imprint--features the single “Purple Hills,” which is currently the No. 14 track on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 singles chart.
In addition to his role as a member of the rap quintet--which also features rappers Proof, Bizarre, Mr Denaun Porter, Swift and Kuniva--Eminem is the album’s executive producer.
The video for “Purple Hills”--as well as detailed information about “Devil’s Night” and D12--can be found at the group’s official website.
D12 has a number of concert dates lined up for later this summer, including a string of August dates on this year’s Warped Tour, as well as a handful of festival performances abroad. Details are available in the tour section at D12’s website.
Sisqo follows up his 1999 debut, “Unleash the Dragon” (Def Jam), with this week’s “The Dragon Returns.” The Dru Hill singer, whose debut effort featured his breakthrough solo hit, “Thong Song,” is scheduled to mark the release with a performance at Tuesday’s (6/19) BET Awards, which will air on the BET cable-television network, according to Sisqo’s official website.
On Thursday, Sisqo will appear on MTV’s “Total Request Live.”
This week’s eponymous release from Mandy Moore features her current single, “In My Pocket,” which is the No. 23 track on trade publication Radio & Records’ latest pop airplay chart. Moore is schedule to perform the song on MTV’s Tuesday (6/19) edition of “Total Request Live.”
Beginning on Tuesday, Moore will spend the rest of June travelling to record stores throughout the U.S., where she will be signing her new album.
311 is releasing “From Chaos” (Volcano) just three days before this Friday’s (6/22) kick-off of the annual Warped Tour, which the group is headlining. The group’s new single, “You Wouldn’t Believe,” made a one-week jump from No. 45 to No. 24 on Radio & Records’ latest alternative airplay chart.
In related news, “Warped Tour Compilation 2001” features previously unreleased or rare studio tracks from 26 of the acts on this summer’s Warped Tour roster, including Rancid, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Sum 41, according to Side One Dummy Records.
Best known as a guitarist in both Jane’s Addiction and--briefly--Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Navarro offers up “Trust No One” (Capitol) this week, his first solo effort. Streaming-audio versions of all of the album’s tracks can be found at Navarro’s official website.
