Erykah Badu's itinerary includes Essence Music Festival

Dallas-based soul singer Erykah Badu is spending her summer on the road.

Her tour kicks off with a July 5 appearance at the Essence Music Festival at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. The July 5-7 festival also includes performances by Destiny's Child, Jill Scott, Joe and Eric Benet. After New Orleans, she jets to Europe for an eight-day jaunt through the continent. Badu returns to the States on Aug. 1, when she plays Portsmouth, Va.

Badu’s U.S. itinerary includes an Aug. 8 stop, dubbed Erykah Budu's Marimba Festival, at the DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston, Mich., with Jill Scott, Macy Gray and Sunshine Anderson.

Her latest album, 2000's "Mama’s Gun," was her first studio album since her 1996 debut, "Baduizm." In between those releases, she sent a live record, appropriately dubbed "Live," to stores in 1997 and made her movie debut in the Academy Award-nominated film "The Cider House Rules." All of her albums were made for Motown Records.
