Les Claypool's Frog Brigade performs Pink Floyd's 'Animals'
Primus frontman Les Claypool and his Frog Brigade are bringing music from their forthcoming album, "Live Frogs--Set 2," to 13 cities this summer.
The band, which kicks off the tour on Saturday (6/16), will spend the summer on a number of festival dates, as well as on a run of shows with Phil Lesh. Four of the performances are headlining gigs.
"Live Frogs--Set 2" (Prawn Song/Red Ink/Columbia) was recorded live last October at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. It consists of a rendition of Pink Floyd’s 1977 album, "Animals."
In a press release, Claypool said, "Nothing was more haunting to a prepubescent kid of those days than the sound of the squealing pig at the beginning of the aptly titled ["Animals" track] ‘Pigs.’ The ‘Animals’ record is one of those albums that I’ve purchased multiple times over the years, and the aforementioned ‘Pigs’ is a song that I've always dreamed of performing. ... As we started learning ‘Pigs,’ I realized that we could take it one step further and actually play the album in its entirety."
In April, Claypool and the Frog Brigade released "Live Frogs--Set 1" (Prawn Song/Red Ink/Columbia).
The prolific Claypool is also wrapping up work on the debut record by Oysterhead, a collaborative project with former Police drummer Stewart Copeland and Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio. The as-of-yet untitled album is due out in the fall on Elektra Records.
