Jill Scott to play several festivals on summer tour

Fresh off a stint opening for Sting on his U.S. tour, R&B singer Jill Scott is hitting the road for a series of dates that run through Sept. 7, according to Sony Music.

Her itinerary includes two nights at the Chicago Theater on July 17-18, and an Aug. 8 stop at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Mich., as part of Erykah Badu ’s Marimba Festival. Macy Gray and Sunshine Anderson are also scheduled to perform at Badu’s festival.

Scott also makes appearances at the Essence Music Festival at New Orleans’ Louisiana Superdome on July 5, and at the Tribute to Michael Jackson at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7. Whitney Houston, Marc Anthony and ‘NSync are among those slated to join Scott at Madison Square Garden.

Scott's platinum-selling debut album, "Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1" (Hidden Beach/Epic/Sony) was nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy earlier this year.
