Charts: Staind sits tight at No. 1
Staind ’s “Break the Cycle,” which last week debuted in the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 album chart, will stay put for a second week in a row. Train’s “Drops of Jupiter,” meanwhile, pushes its way back into the Top 10, where it joins a group of albums that otherwise remains mostly unchanged.
After selling more than 716,000 copies in its first week on the shelves, “Break the Cycle” (Flip) moved another 326,000-plus copies in its second week out, breaking the 1-million-mark after just two weeks in stores, according to industry sources. The album’s first single, “It’s Been a While,” has now spent seven weeks atop Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks and Modern Rock Tracks charts.
Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” (Columbia), which spent the past two weeks in the No. 3 spot, moves back up to No. 2 this week.
The Top 10’s greatest gainer this week is the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack (Interscope), which jumps five spots to No. 3. The album has spawned the hit “Lady Marmalade,” a remake of the chart-topping, ‘70s-era single from the Patti LaBelle-fronted trio Labelle. The new version--performed by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya and Pink--is the No. 1 song on both Billboard’s Hot 100 Airplay chart and trade publication Radio & Records’ pop airplay chart.
Tool ’s “Lateralus” (Volcano), which dipped to No. 2 last week after entering the chart at No. 1 two weeks back, drops to No. 4 this week. It is followed at No. 5 by the “NOW That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 6” (Epic) compilation, which is up two spots from No. 7 last week.
Each down one spot from last week are Missy Elliot’s “Miss E … So Addictive” (Elektra) at No. 6 and Janet Jackson’s “All For You” (Virgin) at No. 7. Also down is the latest from rapper Redman, “Malpractice” (Def Jam), which drops to No. 8 after debuting at No. 4 last week.
Weezer’s latest self-titled release stays put at No. 9 this week, and is followed by Train’s “Drops of Jupiter” (Columbia) at No. 10. The latter album is returning to the Top 10 for the first time since debuting at No. 6 following its March release.
Just outside the Top 10, Shaggy’s “Hotshot” (MCA) surges from No. 21 last week to No. 11 this week, and the soundtrack to the box-office hit “Pearl Harbor” (Hollywood) surges to No. 14 after a No. 31 debut last week. The soundtrack features the Faith Hill track “There You’ll Be,” which is up from No. 23 last week to No. 17 on Radio & Records’ latest country airplay chart.
Further down the chart, Brad Paisley’s “Part II” debuts at No. 31, the soundtrack for “What’s the Worse That Could Happen?” (Interscope) checks in at No. 38, and Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “Time* Sex* Love*” (Columbia) enters at No. 52.
