Jewel enters studio, schedules a few shows

Jewel will step out of the recording studio this summer to perform three concerts, during which she is expected to preview new material.

So far, the Alaskan singer-songwriter has shows scheduled in Bonner Springs, Kan., and San Diego, according to her official website.

Her June 23 acoustic performance in Bonner Springs, Kansas, is part of the "Red, White and Boom 2001" radio show for 93.3 FM. Evan and Jaron, Eve 6, Billy Idol, Lionel Ritchie, 9 Days, Dream, Uncle Kracker, Debelah Morgan, Eden's Crush, Willa Ford, 3LW and ATC are also on the bill.

Fans who can’t make it to any of the three gigs can visit netaid.org and watch a webcast of Jewel's performance from Saratoga’s Mountain Winery taped on Sept. 27. During the show, she previews several new songs including "Does Anybody Believe in Love," "Rosy and Mick," "Stephenville" and "Violet Eyes." The concert features duets with singer-songwriter Steve Poltz, who co-wrote Jewel’s hit "You Were Meant for Me" from her 1995 record "Pieces of You" (Atlantic).

Next month, Jewel is slated to begin work on her next album. Also in June, she appears on cable TV in the movie "Ride with the Devil" and performs the song "Little Girl" with John Michael Montgomery during TNN/CMT’s County Music Awards, which TNN will air on June 13.

Jewel's last album of originals, "Spirit" (Atlantic), was released in November 1998. The following winter, she sent to stores "Joy" A Holiday Collection" (Atlantic).
