Charts: Staind's 'Break the Cycle' roars into top slot

“Break the Cycle,” the sophomore effort from Staind , will rocket to the top of next week’s Billboard 200 album chart after posting first-week sales of more than 716,000 copies, according to industry sources. New releases from both Redman and Tyrese, meanwhile, also debut in the Top 10.

Sales of “Break the Cycle” (Flip) were spurred on by Staind’s chart-topping single “It’s Been a While,” which has spent the past six in the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks and Modern Rock Tracks charts.

Also fanning the album’s flames is the group’s hit “Outside.” A live version of the tune featuring Staind vocalist Aaron Lewis and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst first surfaced last year on the “Family Values Tour 1999” (Interscope) collection, and became a No. 1 hit; that version of the song is still on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Meanwhile, a studio version of the song appears on “Break the Cycle,” and is climbing both the Mainstream Rock Tracks and the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts.

Brisk sales of “Break the Cycle” leaves Tool’s “Lateralus” (Volcano) in the No. 2 spot. The album debuted at No. 1 last week with sales of more than 555,000 copies; that number drops to 197,000 copies this week.

Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” (Columbia) stays put at No. 3 for its second week in a row, leaving it just ahead of the No. 4 debut by Redman’s “Malpractice” (Def Jam). The latter album is the follow-up to 1998’s “Doc’s da Name 2000” and features the single “Let's Get Dirty (I Can't Get in Da Club).”

Missy Elliott’s “Miss E … So Addictive” (Elektra) dips to No. 5 following its No. 2 debut last week. Janet Jackson’s “All for You” (Virgin) follows at No. 6, down one notch from last week.

“NOW That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 6” (Epic) holds fast at No. 7, while the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack (Interscope) jumps two spots to No. 8.

Weezer’s latest self-titled release drops to No. 9 this week after debuting at No. 4 last week, and is followed by the No. 10 debut of Tyrese’s “2000 Watts” (RCA). “2000 Watts” is the follow-up to the R&B singer’s self-titled 1998 debut.

“Machine” (Warner Bros.), the latest from Midwestern rock act Static-X, debuts just outside the Top 10 at No. 11 this week, and is trailed by the No. 20 debut of Bon Jovi’s “One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001” (Island).

Further down the chart, the “Pearl Harbor” soundtrack (Hollywood) logs on at No. 31, followed by the self-titled Interscope debut from City High at No. 34 and Avalon’s “Oxygen” (Chordant) at No. 37.
