Sinead O'Connor cancels some Wotapalava appearances
Sinead O’Connor has bowed out of a good portion of this summer’s Wotapalava tour, which features headliner the Pet Shop Boys.
"Sinead O'Connor was contracted to perform on Wotapalava, and we have been told that due to unforeseeable family commitments, she is no longer available for the majority of the tour," reads a tour press release. "We are in discussions with her regarding her performance at a handful of select engagements."
The Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, the Magnetic Fields and Rufus Wainwright are still slated to perform on the mainstage. The festival tour, which kicks off on July 13 in Miami, Fla., has been touted as the first to target the gay and lesbian market.
Besides the main stage, Wotapalava will include a stage featuring continuous dance music from Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Peter Rauhofer, Tracy Young, Abel, Tom Stephan, Tasty Tim, Susan Morabito, Phil B, James Anderson, Lydia Prim, Manny Lehman, Mark Anthony, DJ Bone (who recently played the Detroit Electronic Music Festival), Alex Lauterstein, Sylvain Girard, Ralphi Rosario, Kostas, Dawna Montell, Frank Abraham, Paulo, Chris Sills and Jimpy, as well as many Broadway and cabaret performers.
Presale tickets are available through planetout.com and gay.com. A dollar of each ticket will benefit the work of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian and gay advocacy organization. The HRC will share proceeds with local youth organizations serving the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans-gender communities.
