Jury acquits Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney
Country stars Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney were found not guilty on Wednesday (5/23) on all charges related to an incident akin to horse rustling.
Last June, outside of Buffalo, N.Y., Chesney mounted a police horse and rode it into the VIP backstage area of George Strait's country music festival. Police deputies tried to pull Chesney off of the horse. Chesney, along with McGraw and tour manager Mark Russo, would later claim that Chesney had received permission to ride the horse.
After--as he later claimed--McGraw tried to keep the deputies from injuring Chesney, McGraw was charged with the felony of assaulting a police officer, as well as the misdemeanor charges of obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. Russo was also charged with obstructing police, while Chesney was charged with disorderly conduct.
The felony charge against McGraw was dropped last August. McGraw and Russo’s misdemeanor charges could have landed the two in jail for up to a year. The jury took two hours to deliberate before finding Chesney, McGraw and Russo not guilty.
McGraw and Chesney will tour together this summer.
