Counterfeit tickets delay start of Tool's tour opener

The rock band Tool started its show two hours late on Tuesday (5/15) after scores of fans tried to enter Atlanta's Tabernacle club with counterfeit tickets.

Tabernacle spokesman Adam Cohen said that about 150 of the approximately 2,500 tickets checked at the door were fake, and that the source of the tickets was under investigation. Venue officials were tipped off by erroneous markings on the tickets, which were printed on official Ticketmaster stock paper, Cohen said. (Ticketmaster is liveDaily's parent company).

Tool agreed to postpone the start of the show--which was its tour opener--until every ticket was checked for authenticity, he added.

"The delay was [due to] the band being very gracious and very understanding of the situation..., and they wanted to make sure that all of their fans were completely satisfied with their show," Cohen said.

"They cooperated with us in holding the doors long enough to where we could make sure everyone was in safely and that the room was not over capacity."

In a posting on its official website on Wednesday (5/16), Tool warned its fans to purchase tickets from a "reputable source." Lead singer Maynard James Keenan shared the same thought at the show, according to Cohen.

"There are all sorts of anti-counterfeiting features that we build into a ticket, and they work," Ticketmaster spokesperson Larry Solters said. "The proof is in the pudding--we found 150 counterfeit tickets."
