Peter Gabriel plans return to Seattle's WOMAD stage

Peter Gabriel , Robert Plant , Steel Pulse and the Neville Brothers are among the acts confirmed for this year’s WOMAD USA festival, which will take place July 27-29 at Marymoor Park near Seattle.

Gabriel, making his first U.S. appearance on a WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) stage since 1994, will perform as a guest vocalist with the Afro Celt Sound System.

The line-up features 40 artists from 22 countries: Asian Dub Foundation (UK), Baka Beyond (UK/Sierra Leone/France/Cameroon/Ghana), Ballake Sissoko (Mali), Barbara Luna (Argentina), Baul Bishwa (India), Blind Boys of Alabama (USA), Chemirani Zarb Trio (Iran), Daniel Lapp (Canada), David Lindley (USA), El Hadj N’ Diaye (Senegal), Iarla O Lionaird (Ireland), Ifang Bondi (Gambia/Senegal), Imbizo (Zimbabwe), Julien Jacob (Benin/West Indies), Justin Adams and Salah Dawson Miller (UK), Kathryn Tickell (UK), La Familia Valera Miranda (Cuba), Lagbaja (Nigeria), Lo’Jo (France), Matapat (Canada),Oyster Band (UK), Pina (Austria), Puentes Brothers (Cuba), Raul Barboza (Argentina/Venezuela), Rennie Harris Pure Movement (USA), Savourna Stevenson (Scotland), Sawt El Atlas (Morocco), Steel Pulse (UK), Transglobal Underground (UK) and Yungchen Lhamo (Tibet).

"A WOMAD festival is a celebration of the diversity of the globe," Gabriel said via satellite from London at a press conference on Monday. "I challenge anyone to come to WOMAD USA and not be inspired by something they see there. I make a new discovery each time I attend."

Tickets for the event go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, via the official WOMAD site and through Ticketmaster and Ticketmaster Online. (Ticketmaster is liveDaily's parent company.)

Since the event made its debut in 1982, WOMAD has presented more than 120 different events in about 20 different countries, according to organizers. This year, WOMAD also plans to put on events in Spain, the U.K., Italy, Singapore, the Czech Republic, and the Canary Islands.
