Charts: 'NOW Vol. 6' debuts at No. 1
The sixth installment in the “NOW That’s What I Call Music!” series roars onto the charts this week at No. 1 with sales of over half-a-million copies, according to industry sources. The disc is the second in the series to debut in the album chart’s top slot.
“NOW That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 6” (Epic) is a compilation of proven hits by a roster of acts that includes Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, ‘NSync, Destiny’s Child, Creed and U2. “NOW Vol. 5” debuted at No. 2 last November, while the series’ fourth volume debuted at No. 1 last summer and stayed there for a total of three weeks. The second and third volumes, meanwhile, have each been certified double-platinum.
The high-charting debut from “NOW Vol. 6” pushes “Until the End of Time” (Interscope), the latest posthumous collection of previously unreleased works from rapper Tupac Shakur, down to No. 2. That disc debuted in the top slot last week.
“The Life” (Epic), the third album from R&B singer Ginuwine, debuts in the No. 3 position this week. The disc features the track “There It Is,” which is up five spots to No. 10 on Radio & Records’ latest urban airplay chart. Ginuwine’s latest is the follow up to his 1999 double-platinum sophomore effort, "100% Ginuwine."
Shaggy’s “Hotshot” (MCA) slips two more places to No. 4 this week, and is followed by a No. 5 debut from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s “Live in New York City” (Columbia). The 20-track, 2-CD set was recorded during the group’s 10-night stand at Madison Square Garden last summer.
Down three spots to No. 6 this week is Dave Matthews Band’s “Everyday” (RCA), which is followed by the No. 7 debut of Big Pun’s “Endangered Species” (Loud). Seven-hundred-pound rapper Big Pun died of a heart attack in February 2000 at the age of 28. This collection is his second posthumous release and, along with “Until the End of Time,” marks the second disc by a deceased rapper to occupy a spot in this week’s Top 10.
Limp Bizkit’s “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water” (Flip/Interscope)--which resurfaced in the Top 10 recently with the help of its latest single, “My Way”--dips one spot to No. 8 this week. The album is followed by Dido’s “No Angel” (Arista) at No. 9 and R&B quartet 112’s “Part III” (Bad Boy) at No. 10.
Further down the chart, Run-DMC’s highly anticipated comeback album “Crown Royal” (Arista) enters the chart at No. 37, Cappadonna’s “The Yin and the Yang” (Epic) clocks in at No. 51, and the latest from Journey, “Arrival” (Columbia), debuts at No. 56.
