Fifty cities fill James Taylor's 2001 itinerary
James Taylor has announced the first leg of his summer tour, which is expected to hit 50 cities before it concludes ends in October.
The first leg of the tour, dubbed Pull Over, begins on June 1 at West Palm Beach's Mars Music Amphitheatre and features six New York City-area dates.
After a weeklong break, Taylor starts the second batch of dates on Aug. 10. That round, which focuses on the West Coast, includes two Labor Day weekend shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver. It wraps up Oct. 6 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The West Coast dates will be announced within the next couple weeks.
According to Taylor's spokesman, the set list will span Taylor's career. His longtime band will back him--keyboardist Clifford Carter, bassist Jimmy Johnson, guitarist Bob Mann, percussionist Luis Conte and drummer Russ Kunkel . Arnold McCuller, David Lasley, Valerie Carter and Kate Markowitz will serve as background singers, while Walt Fowler plays trumpet and flügelhorn and Lou Marini plays saxophone and flute.
Taylor was one of the top draws on the shed circuit during the '90s, but he has curtailed his touring schedule over the years. Taylor booked a limited number of North American shows in the summer of 1999, then ended the year on a two-month symphonic tour of more intimate venues. He did not tour in 2000.
