Stereophonics to tour North America this spring

U.K. trio Stereophonics will head to North America in May for a short series of dates that will promote its forthcoming release, “Just Enough Education to Perform.”

The tour will play in small venues, and will also feature a May 15 appearance on “The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn,” according to the group’s publicist.

“Just Enough Education to Perform” (V2), Stereophonics' third album, is due in stores on April 22. The new album features the single “Mr. Writer,” which debuted at No. 5 on the U.K. singles chart, according to the group’s publicist.

"I had the title 'Mr Writer,'” said Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones in a group press release, “so when we came to record the song the lyric ended up becoming a statement or a comment about some of the journalists we've encountered. It's just a sarcastic observation."

The video for "Mr. Writer" recently debuted on MTV, and is scheduled to air on MTV2 on April 5th every hour on the hour for 24 hours.

In addition to its upcoming North American outing, Stereophonics’ tour plans include at least five opening dates on the European leg of U2’s Elevation tour in July and August.

The group is also scheduled to headline two U.K. festival dates--both dubbed “A Day at the Races”--on July 14 at Donnington Racetrack and July 21 at Chepstow Racecourse. Other acts scheduled to play include the Black Crowes and Irish pop-punk quartet Ash.

The Chepstow Racecourse festival may be in jeopardy due to a new outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease within one mile of the concert site, NME.com reported on Monday (4/2). The festival’s promoter and the band’s manager are optimistic that the event will take place nonetheless, according to the report.

Frontman Kelly Jones toured the U.S. in February for a short series of acoustic dates that also featured Stereophonics bassist Richard Jones. The two, along with Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable, will receive additional live support from guitarist Scott James and keyboardist Tony Kirkham on the upcoming outing.
