Charts: Shaggy continues reign at No. 1
For the second week straight and sixth week overall, Shaggy ’s “Hotshot” has topped the U.S. album-sales chart, according to industry sources. The reggae-rap star’s sophomore effort finishes the week just ahead of the No. 2 debut from 112’s “Part III.”
“Part III” (Bad Boy/Arista), the Atlanta R&B quartet's third release, moved 182,352 copies in its first week out--roughly 6,000 fewer than "Hotshot"--according to an Arista press release. The album features the hit “It's Over Now,'' which spent two weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart and reached No. 6 on the magazine's Hot 100 chart.
The high-charting debut from 112 pushes Dave Matthews Band’s “Everyday” (RCA)--which spent two weeks at No. 1 following its Feb. 27 release--down another spot to No. 3. The disc was ousted from No. 1 last week by “Hotshot” (MCA).
Trick Daddy also logs a Top 10 debut with “Thugs Are Us” (Atlantic). The album’s track “Take It to Da House” is climbing trade publication Radio & Records' urban national airplay chart, and is up three spots to No. 23 on this week’s edition.
Aerosmith ’s latest, “Just Push Play” (Columbia), continues its slow decline following it’s No. 2 debut two weeks back, and is down to No. 5 this week.
“Pleasures You Like” (Epic), the latest collection of slow-jam tunes from Jon B, debuts on the chart at No. 6 this week. “Don’t Talk,” the latest single from the disc, is charting at No. 13 on Radio & Records’ urban national airplay chart.
Dido’s “No Angel” (Arista) continues to stay in the Top 10, but is on the descent--the disc drops from No. 4 last week to No. 7 this week.
The fourth and final Top 10 debut on this week’s chart is the soundtrack to “Exit Wounds” (Virgin), Steven Seagal's latest shoot-‘em-up flick. The film features co-star DMX, who contributes a cover of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” to the soundtrack, which clocks in at No. 8 in its first week on the chart.
Limp Bizkit ’s “Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water” (Flip/Interscope)--which returned to the Top 10 last week for the first time since late January--is up one notch to No. 9 this week. The group’s latest single, “My Way,” is at No. 11 on Billboard’s latest Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, up from No. 13 last week and No. 16 two weeks back.
Filling the last spot on this week’s Top 10 is “Force of Nature” (Virgin) from Tank, which entered the chart at No. 7 last week. The disc is the debut from the R&B singer, who previously served as a back-up vocalist for Aaliyah and Ginuwine.
