Jimmy Buffett rolls out spring-summer amphitheater dates
Jimmy Buffett , who has significantly scaled back his touring schedule in recent years, has announced a light spring-summer itinerary for 2001 that is broken into two seven-city runs.
Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band complete a 10-city winter tour later this week in San Jose, Calif., and will break for more than two months before taking to the road in May and June. After another break, they will return to the road at the end of August.
Ticket on-sale information hadn’t been announced by press time. Buffett continues to donate one dollar from each ticket sold to Singing for Change, a private foundation he founded in 1995 to support programs benefiting children, families, the environment and other causes.
The leader of a throng of rabid fans known as Parrotheads, Buffett is one of the more bankable acts on the concert circuit. Despite visiting just 24 cities, his 2000 outing grossed $24.1 million, and ranked at No. 18 on Pollstar magazine's list of the year's top-grossing tours. According to Amusement Business, Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band was the sixth-highest-grossing touring act of the '90s, taking in nearly $166.6 million and playing almost 400 shows.
Buffett, who released his most recent album on his Mail Boat Records label in late 1999, hasn't announced specific plans to record a new album.
