Jagged Edge, R. Kelly get top honors at Soul Train Awards

Taking home two awards apiece, Jagged Edge and R. Kelly were the top winners at the Soul Train Music Awards, held on Wednesday (2/28) at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The ceremony was taped, and will be broadcast in syndication beginning on March 3.

Kelly won the R&B male soul single award for “I Wish,” and the best male album award for “TP2.com.” Jagged Edge took awards for “Let’s Get Married” in the best single for group, band or duo category, and in the best album for group, band or duo category for “J.E. Heartbreak.”

Dr. Dre ’s “Dr. Dre-2001” picked up the album of the year award, while Yolanda Albums won the best female single award for “Open Your Heart.” Jill Scott ’s debut release “Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1,” won in the female album category. The top video award went to Mystical’s “Shake Ya Ass,” and the top new artist award went to Nelly.

The ceremony was hosted by Queen Latifa, singer Mya, and actor Shemar Moore.
