Van Zant brothers join forces for March tour
Van Zant--featuring brothers Donnie and Johnny, frontmen of .38 Special and Lynyrd Skynyrd , respectively--is preparing for a series of concert dates that begins on March 6, the release date of its forthcoming album, “Van Zant II” (CMC International).
The brothers’ outing will be their first together, according to the label. The two did not tour behind their 1998 debut, “Brother to Brother.”
Donnie Van Zant is best known for his role at the helm of popular ‘70s and ‘80s Southern rock act .38 Special. The group was formed in 1975, and scored success with hits such as “Hold on Loosely” and “Caught Up in You.”
Johnny Van Zant fronted his own self-titled group from the late ‘70s through the mid ‘80s, but eventually left the business and worked as a truck driver. He returned to the music world in the late ‘80s to take over lead vocals for a reunited Lynyrd Skynyrd. Original Skynyrd frontman and elder Van Zant brother Ronnie was killed in a plane crash in 1977.
Donnie and Johnny Van Zant are scheduled to appear on the nationally syndicated radio program “Rockline” on Wednesday (2/28) at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time, according to the label.
The new album's first single, “Get What You Got Comin’,” features a guest appearance by blues-guitar virtuoso Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
