Hank Williams III tour gives country, punk equal time

Hank Williams III has embarked on a U.S. club tour that is scheduled to run non-stop until mid-March. A handful of April dates has also been confirmed. The youngest of the famous Williams men is touring behind his debut album, “Risin’ Outlaw” (Curb).

Williams and his band simultaneously tour as both a country outfit known as Hank Williams III and the Damn Band, and a punk-rock outfit known as Hank Williams III and AssJack. The lineup for both groups is the same, and they generally perform both a country set and a rock set at each show, according to Williams’ management.

Following his current headlining outing, Williams and his band are scheduled to tour with the Melvins from early- to mid-May, and are then slated to appear on the Warped Tour from late June through mid August, according to Williams’ official website.

The country album “Risin’ Outlaw” (Curb), Williams’ solo debut, was released in September of 1999. He is scheduled to release a rock album later this year.

Williams first appeared on the 1996 release “Three Hanks: Men with Broken Hearts” (Curb). That album, through technical wizardry, featured Hank Williams Jr. and Hank Williams III singing with the deceased Hank Williams Sr. Critics and fans have noted Williams III’s striking physical and vocal resemblance to his late grandfather.

Williams’ current headlining outing began on Feb. 15 in Cincinnati, and resumed on Thursday night (2/22) in Norfolk, Va.
