Jeff Tweedy goes solo to road-test new Wilco tracks
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy will debut his band's new material on a solo acoustic tour scheduled to start on Feb. 24 in Washington, D.C.
Two of the 12 dates--Somerville, Mass., and San Francisco--have already sold out.
Wilco--whose album 2000 album with Billy Bragg, "Mermaid Avenue Vol. 2" (Elektra), was nominated for a Best Contemporary Folk Album Grammy--has been working on a new album since December at its Chicago studio, Wilco World Headquarters. It will be the band's first album of new material since 1999's "Summer Teeth" (Reprise), and it has cut 20 new songs for the album, according to its spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Tweedy scored the Ethan Hawke-directed film "Chelsea Walls," which stars Kris Kristofferson, Tuesday Weld and Uma Thurman, and is expected to debut at festivals this spring. Tweedy, along with his Wilco bandmates Jay Bennett, John Stirratt and Ken Coomer, will make appearances in the movie.
Texas-based singer-songwriter Ben Kweller will open for Tweedy on several dates.
