Eminem pleads guilty to felony weapons charge

Eminem entered a guilty plea of felony possession of a concealed weapon in a Macomb County, Mich., court on Wednesday (2/14), and prosecutors in exchange agreed to dismiss a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. The charges stemmed from a confrontation outside a Detroit area nightclub last year.

The felony weapons charge carries a maximum prison term of five years, and Eminem is scheduled to be sentenced on April 10. But Judge Antonio P. Viviano took the plea under advisement, so if Eminem and his attorneys are unhappy with the sentence that the judge hands down, they may withdraw the rapper's guilty plea and request a jury trial.

County prosecutor Carl Marlinga told the Detroit Free Press last year, "Whether we go to trial or whether he pleads, we are going to be asking for significant jail time." Eminem's sentence could be as light as probation, however.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, was among four people arrested following a dispute outside of a Warren, Mich., nightclub last June. Eminem allegedly hit a man, John Guerra, over the head with an unloaded gun after he saw the man kissing his wife, Kim.
