Ozzfest 2001 lineup takes shape
Ozzy Osbourne , who last year announced that he would no longer participate as a performer on his annual Ozzfest tour, plans to return to this year’s lineup at the helm of Black Sabbath , a group that announced in 1999 that it would no longer tour together. Ozzfest is set to get underway in June.
The main stage lineup for this year’s outing will be rounded out by Marilyn Manson , Slipknot , Papa Roach , Linkin Park and Crazy Town. Disturbed will headline the second stage; no other second stage acts have been announced. The tour’s inaugural performance is set for June 8 in Chicago.
Additional acts--including a third-stage lineup--and a complete list of tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks, according to Ozzfest’s newly launched official website.
On March 27, Divine Recordings will release a 2-CD live album titled “Ozzfest: Second Stage Live.” The 10-track first disc was recorded during Ozzfest 2000’s Phoenix show, and features songs from Soulfly, Disturbed, Slaves on Dope, Kittie, Taproot and others.
The nine-track second disc was recorded in 1996 in Devore, Calif., during the first Ozzfest outing. That disc features 7 tracks originally found on the now out-of-print release “Ozzfest Live!” and includes songs from Coal Chamber, Powerman 5000, Fear Factory, Biohazzard, Sepultura and others.
The second disc is also an enhanced CD that includes demo versions of two Sega Dreamcast games, according to Divine. Both discs end with a track from Osbourne.
In a recent interview on VH1, Osbourne’s wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, indicated that Osbourne is currently working on his first solo album since 1995’s “Ozzmosis” (Epic). No release date has been set.
Osbourne and Black Sabbath reunited in 1997, and the group released a live album titled “Reunion” (Sony) in 1998. The album contained two new studio tracks from the group, including the radio hit “Psycho Man.”
Sabbath last performed together on Dec. 22, 1999 in Birmingham, England, for what it claimed would be the members’ final show together. Osbourne has announced his retirement on several occasions.
