Dave Matthews Band announces spring-summer tour

Dave Matthews Band has confirmed the first leg of its 2001 tour in support of its forthcoming release, “Everyday” (RCA). Tickets for most of the 24 currently scheduled dates will go on sale next month, according to the band’s publicist.

The outing is set to begin on April 21 in the band’s hometown of Charlottesville, Va. Proceeds from that show will benefit the Bama Works Foundation, a band-founded organization that distributes funds to select non-profit groups. Tickets for that date are set to go on sale on March 3.

The group’s itinerary also includes a May 5 performance in the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Tickets for that date go on sale on Feb. 12.

The rest of the dates--with the exception of a June 22 Philadelphia show for which a venue has not been announced--are set to go on sale on March 10, according to the band’s official website. The group’s official fanclub will also hold a ticket lottery beginning Feb. 17 that will give members a first shot at buying tickets.

“Everyday,” Dave Matthews Band ’s fourth album, is set for release on Feb. 27. The disc was recorded last fall with producer Glenn Ballard (Alanis Morissette), according to the group’s publicist.

“I Did It,” the first single from “Everyday,” made news last month when it was officially released via the Napster file-sharing network. The video for the song will premiere on VH1, MTV and MTV2 on Feb. 15.

Dave Matthews Band is scheduled to appear on “Saturday Night Live” on Feb. 24 and on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Feb. 26. Also set for Feb. 26 is a one-hour episode of “The Charlie Rose Show” that will feature an in-depth look at the band.

The second leg of the group’s 2001 North American tour will be announced in March, according to the group’s publicist.
