O-town plots tour, promotional work
As its debut album hits stores, the publicity machine is revving at full speed for O-town, the boy group that stars in the ABC-TV series “Making the Band.” The quintet is focusing on promotional appearances in January, but will open a U.S. tour in February with several dates in its home state of Florida.
The group is scheduled to appear on “Live! with Regis” on Thursday (1/25), and will make an appearance at a Wherehouse Music store in Los Angeles later in the day. The group is also scheduled to appear at several Wal-Mart stores before the tour launches, according to the official O-town website.
Orlando, Fla.-based O-town inked a deal with J Records--a new label headed by Arista Records founder Clive Davis--during the 2000 season finale of “Making the Band,” and the group’s self-titled debut album was released on Tuesday (1/23). Lou Pearlman, who managed Backstreet Boys and ‘NSync during their early years, is an executive producer of the television show.
In December, O-town's single "Liquid Dreams," the first release on J Records, sold more than 42,000 copies in its debut week to chart at No. 1.
