Allman Brothers Band firms up annual Beacon Theatre gigs

In what has become a tradition in recent years, the Allman Brothers Band has scheduled a lengthy late-March stay at New York City’s Beacon Theatre. Tickets for eight shows at the venue are scheduled to go on sale on Monday (1/15), according to promoters.

This year’s concerts are scheduled to take place on March 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, and 24. The band’s line-up will include Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Derek Trucks, Marc Quinones, Oteil Burbridge, Jaimoe and special guest Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule, ex-Allmans).

If the initial shows sell out, it is a good bet that more will be added. The Allmans sold out 13 shows at the venue in 2000--grossing $2.2 million, according to Amusement Business--to bring their streak of sold-out performances at the venue to 94.

The Allmans' 2000 stay at the Beacon spawned a live album titled “Peakin’ at the Beacon” (Sony 550), which was released in November.

Still absent from the band is founding guitarist Dickey Betts, who hasn’t toured with the Allmans since May 2000.
